Emergent Green is a 501 (c) (3) sponsored nonprofit organization located in Macomb, Michigan. Founded in 2008, the organization has been established to address the need, and demand, for smarter and more energy efficient homes. Just as automakers are building smaller and more efficient cars due to rising gasoline costs, Emergent Green means to develop and build a prototype community of homes which will mitigate the large amount of natural resources homes use today, as well as decrease the impact current home construction has on the environment.

Recognizing the needs that exist in Macomb, Michigan, a need that can be found throughout the country, the staff provides an important building program to anyone who may be interested in living in a green home. The organization's goals are accomplished by implementation of stimulating activities and materials that are organized around a well-develop prospectus. Ongoing evaluation assures progress and cost-effectiveness.

The idea of green living and Emergent Green is to start building more wisely. This means building smaller more efficient homes instead of huge homes that waste space, heat and other resources. We hope to procure funding or have property donated where we can study ways in which to do this. On the property we will build prototype homes that will be available to be purchased. The homes will be both affordable and more efficient.

One such way of being efficient is to have the living room, dining room and kitchen one large area instead of several smaller rooms. Having the rooms divided means that more lumber and materials is needed to build a home, thus wasting more of our natural resources. We hope to work with government agencies like HUD in order to put people who need affordable housing in the houses we build. Building these homes is not something that we will be able to do in the first few years. We will need to procure the funds and formalize the plans on how we want to build first.
